WASHINGTON, D.C. (Nov. 16, 2019) -- Troy Baxter Jr. scored 10 points with 10 rebounds to lead Morgan State to a 68-64 win over George Washington on Saturday.
Stanley Davis added 17 points for the Bears (2-2). David Syfax scored 14 points and Sherwyn Devonish-Prince Jr. had 12 with nine rebounds. Isaiah Burke went scoreless despite leading the Bears in scoring coming into the contest with 12 points per game. He failed to make a shot from beyond the arc (0 of 4).
Trailing by three on the final possession, GW's Shawn Walker Jr. got off a good look for a game-tying three in the corner that fell short, and the ball found its way to Maceo Jack for another game-tying attempt in the closing seconds that hit just wide. Morgan State converted a free throw at the other end to account for the 4-point final differential.
GW's forward Arnaldo Toro, who led the country in both total rebounds (49) and rebounds per game (16.3), left the game after logging just 2:27 of game time. He was sidelined with a lower-body injury and sat the remainder of the contest.
The Bears took advantage of its size inside and outrebounded GW 45-29 while holding a 40-20 edge in points in the paint.
Morgan State returns home to play Regent inside Hill Field House on Tuesday (Nov. 19).
