MSU Men's Basketball Picked 8th In Preseason MEAC Poll

Davis and Devonish-Prince named to the Preseason All-MEAC Team

BALTIMORE, Md. (October 24, 2019) -- The Morgan State men's basketball team has been tabbed to finish eighth in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Preseason Men's Basketball Poll the league announced today.

The Bears return three starters from last year's team, bringing back guards Stanley Davis and Sherwyn Devonish-Prince, Jr and forward David Syfax. MSU also returns guards Isaiah Burke, Kyson Rawls, and Malik Miller, along with forwards LaPri McCray-Pace, Victor Curry and Malik Miller.

"We have variety and quality returners from last year," Kevin Broadus said. "Some of those guys have grown into being a very integral part of this program and we'll need them to step up in order for us to be in the top half of the league."

Broadus enters his first season at the helm of Morgan State's program with a roster consisting of a healthy mix of holdovers, transfers, and freshmen.

"I think these folks know what they want – and they want to be good," said Broadus, who was 37-24 with an NCAA tournament appearance during a two-year stint at Binghamton a decade ago. "That's an appealing thing to me."

MSU was selected to finish eighth in 2019-20, earning 101 points in the poll of the league's head coaches and sports information directors who could not vote for their own team or team members.

North Carolina Central (203 points), who captured its third straight MEAC Tournament championship last season, edged out Bethune-Cookman (198 points) for first place honors, followed by defending regular-season champion Norfolk State.

Eight (8) Bears are back from a team that placed 10th in the MEAC. Morgan State finished the year 6-7 in the conference and 9-21 overall. MSU's season ended with an 81-71 loss to Coppin State in the MEAC Tournament first round.

Morgan State's 2019-20 season tips off on Wednesday, Nov. 6, with a matchup against the Central Penn Knights. The conference schedule gets underway on January 4 when the Bears travel to play Delaware State.

The Battle for Greater Baltimore will write its next chapter downtown. Morgan State is set to host Towson on Dec. 8 at Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore for the Charm City Classic. The game is set for Saturday, December 8 at 1 p.m. For ticket information click here.

The 2019-20 season begins on Tuesday, Nov. 5, with seven MEAC teams in action.
