Men's Cross Country Post Third Place Finish at DSU Alumni Invitational

SMRYNA, Del. -- The Morgan State men's cross country finished in third place out of six teams at the DSU Alumni XC Invite, held at the Delaware Outreach & Research Center last Friday afternoon. 
 
Morgan State finished the course with 72 points and a total time of 2:34:34. The Bears all finished in the Top 20 of the race. 
 
University of Maryland Eastern Shore finished in first place with 50 points, followed by Howard with a second place finish (50). 
 
Howard's Gavin Williams (27:12.1) captured first place in the 8k race, as Eastern Shore's Nahom Ftwi (27:34.2), John Akakeya (27:34.5), Edwin Kipruto (27:34.8) placed in 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. Howard's Arron Coates (28:38.4) rounded out the top five. 
 
Morgan State freshman Justin Alston led the way for the Bears with a sixth place finish time of 28:48.8. Freshmen Rashaan Allen Jr. finished in 13th place (30:37.1) and Justin Coelho (31:25.2) finished in 16th. 
 
Sophomore Steven Fuller came in 18th place  (31:42.9) and was followed by 19th and 20th place finishes from sophomore Elisee Djapa (32:00.0) and freshman James Minor (32:12.3). 

In two weeks (Oct. 26), Morgan State will return to Smyrna, Del. to wrap up the cross country season at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships, hosted by Delaware State University.
