Morgan State Posts Another Shutout Of Delaware State In Game 2, 4-0

BALTIMORE, Md. (April 14, 2018)-The Morgan State Lady Bears put to rest any possibility of following up their historic sweep of Towson earlier in the week with a lack-luster outing against Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) foe Delaware State. After taking Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Hornets by a score of 11-0, Morgan State completed the sweep with another shutout victory with a 4-0 win in the nightcap at Lois T. Murray Field.

The Lady Bears (20-13, 8-2 MEAC) extended their winning streak to a season-best 10 consecutive games and moved into sole position of first-place in the league standings.

Morgan State reached 20 wins for the second consecutive season and secured just its ninth win over Delaware State in the last 49 meetings.

Delaware State (9-25, 7-4 MEAC) has now dropped six straight contests and four of its last five against Morgan State dating back to last season.

Stormy Zyzyk went 1-for-1 at the plate with an RBI, two runs and two walks and Damali Young had a game-high 2RBI to lead the Lady Bears.

Stephanie Rundlett, who earned the Game 1 shutout victory, came in the fifth inning to relieve starting pitcher Amy Begg, and picked up her second win of the day. Rundlett, who improved to 10-6 on the season, pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and threw three strikeouts. Begg, who tossed a strikeout in 4 1/3 innings of work, along with Rundlett, would hold the Hornets to two hits, each surrendering a hit.

Morgan State broke a scoreless game in the fifth inning when Young singled to shortstop, scoring Zyzyk. Gabriella Gorosave later on walked with bases loaded, scoring Anissa Morales, giving the hosts a 2-0 lead.

The Lady Bears went back to work in the sixth inning when Zyzyk singled to right field, scoring Caitlyn Williams for the third run. Zyzyk would score her second run of the game when Young reached on a bases loaded fielder's choice to give Morgan State a 4-0 lead.

Delaware State's Alexis Goldsby was charged with the loss and fell to 4-9 on the season. Goldsby would allow two runs on three hits and walked four batters in 4 1/3 innings. Jessica Shalongo would relieve Goldsby and also gave up two runs on three hits and had three walks in 1 2/3 innings.

The Lady Bears and Delaware State are scheduled to conclude the series on Sunday at noon.
