Men's Tennis Splits Past Saint Joseph's, 5-2

MERION STATION, Pa. – The Morgan State's men's tennis team extended to a five-match winning streak after posting a 5-2 road victory against the Saint Joseph Hawks on Tuesday afternoon at the SJU Tennis Complex.

Morgan State (6-4) took the early lead by securing the doubles point with wins in the first two flights. Peter Dewitt and Luis Janko earned a positive result for SJU, cruising to a 6-1 win in the third flight, but the Bears' duo of Shrey Gupta and Nihit Rawal won the second flight, 7-6 (4), in a tiebreaker to lock down the point.

Saint Joseph's (4-9) leveled the match with a result in the fourth singles flight as Andre Fick notched a 6-4, 6-4 win over Oguzhan Ceylan. However the Bears ran off four consecutive singles wins to power MSU to the overall victory.

"We're not playing perfect, but the training is moving forward still," said MSU coach Matthew Townes. "We're completely healthy, but it feels good to beat quality teams."

Morgan State will begin conference play when they travel to take on the Hampton Pirates on Saturday in Hampton, Virginia. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
