BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 8, 2018)-Morgan State, which has won just three times away from Hill Field House this season, returns to the road this upcoming week for a two-game road trip when the Lady Bears visit Savannah State and Florida A&M. The Lady Bears will first look to spoil Savannah State's Winter Homecoming festivities, when they take on the Lady Tigers on Saturday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m. at Tiger Arena in Savannah, Ga.
BEAR CLAWS: Morgan State (12-11, 5-5 MEAC) dropped its second home game of the season on Monday, falling to Howard, 68-61.
Braennan Farrar finished with a game-high 19 points and
Adre'onia Coleman recorded her fourth double-double of the season, adding 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Lexus Spears finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. Spears has led the Lady Bears with 13.4 points and 7.0 rebounds. Farrar is adding 12 points and leads the team with 76 assists and 55 steals.
Tykyrah Williams is totaling 10.4 points and 6.0 boards. Coleman is scoring just under 10 points at 9.8 points and is pulling down 6.7 rebounds per outing. Morgan State is averaging 61.8 points, while allowing 62.5 points per game.
TIGER STRIPES: Savannah State (4-17, 1-8 MEAC) is coming off a 79-41 non-conference victory over Allen on Monday. Kaylee Allen led four Lady Tigers in double figures scoring, finishing with a game-high 20 points and a game-high four steals. Jazmine Bartlett and Teyah Johnson each came off the bench and scored 13 points, while Heniaya Moton finished with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Jacqueline Anderson led the way with a game-high eight rebounds. Savannah State is led by Allen, who is averaging 16.3 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. Alexxus Sowell, who was named MEAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, leads the Lady Tigers with 7.8 rebounds per game and has recorded 51 blocks.
MSU VS. SAVANNAH STATE SERIES NOTES: The series is tied, 6-6. Morgan State won the first meeting this season, 73-67 on Jan. 8 in Baltimore.
NEXT UP: The Lady Bears will conclude their road trip on Monday, Feb. 12, when they visit Florida A&M. Tip-off is at 6 p.m. at the Al Lawson Center in Tallahassee, Fla.
SPEARS JOINS 500 REBOUND CLUB: Senior forward
Lexus Spears pulled down six rebounds against South Carolina State (1/29), giving her 501 career rebounds at Morgan State to become the 13th Lady Bear to grab 500 rebounds. Spears, who played in just three games last season due to an injury, has pulled down a team-leading 161 rebounds this season for an average of 7.0 rebounds per game. She now has 514 career rebounds.
HOLD UM UNDER 60 POINTS: Morgan State improved to 10-1 this season when holding its opponents under 60 points, following a 55-53 victory at Norfolk State (2/3). During the Lady Bears' season-long four-game winning streak (Dec. 28-Jan. 8), Morgan State held three of those opponents to under 60 points. Of those 10 victories, twice (Lincoln-Pa. and Central Connecticut) the Lady Bears surrendered an opponent low 41 points.
FARRAR ON THE RISE: Braennan "BeBe" Farrar continues to make her move up several of Morgan State's statistical charts. Farrar currently ranks fourth all-time at Morgan State in assists with 334 and needs three assists to pass Debbie Grey (336 assists from 1985-90). The St. Louis, Mo. native sits in fourth-place all-time in steals at Morgan State with 257. Farrar also ranks fourth in scoring with 1,487 points.
WILLIAMS CLOSING IN ON 1,000 PTS/500 REBS CLUB: Senior
Tykyrah Williams is on the verge of becoming the seventh Lady Bear player to join the 1,000 points and 500 rebounds club at Morgan State. Williams currently has scored 958 points and has grabbed 537 rebounds during her career. Williams became the 12th player to record 500 rebounds at Morgan State when she pulled down seven boards at N.C. A&T (1/13) to give her 501 for her career.
SEE YOU MONDAY AT THE HOUSE: Due to this year's unusual MEAC scheduling, the Lady Bears' final six MEAC games at Hill Field House will all be played on Monday evenings only. Morgan State's victory over Florida A&M (1/6) was the final Saturday home contest of the season.
MORGAN AND COPPIN IN HOME FINALE: The Lady Bears and crosstown rival Coppin State will meet in the home finale for organ State on Monday, Feb. 26. Tip-off will be at 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House. The contest will also mark 'Senior Day' for
