Braennan Farrar scored a game-high 19 points and
Adre'onia Coleman recorded her fourth double-double of the season, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds, but it wasn't enough, as visiting Howard defeated Morgan State, 68-61 on Monday night at Hill Field House.

Lexus Spears added 12 points for the Lady Bears, who had their two-game winning streak, as well as a four-game winning streak over the Lady Bison snapped. The loss was also the Lady Bears second this season at home, dropping Morgan State to 9-2 at Hill Field House.

Howard (9-13, 5-4 MEAC) was led by Jayla Thornton, who came off the bench to score a team-leading 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from three-point range. Jayla Myles recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and had a game-high three blocked shots. Sarah Edmond added 10 points and dished out a game-high six assists.

Morgan State (12-11, 5-5 MEAC) held a 9-8 lead with 4:27 remaining in the first half, but the Lady Bison used a 9-0 run to take a 17-9 lead with 2:13 left in the period and held a 19-13 lead after one quarter of play.

Howard upped its advantage to 25-13 with back-to-back three-pointers from Jayla Thornton to begin the second half. Thornton, who hit four three-pointers in the second period, wasn't done as her fourth trey of the period gave the guests a 33-22 lead with 1:53 left in the before intermission. The Lady Bison held a 36-23 lead at the break.

The Lady Bison increased their lead to as much as 17 points, following a layup by Myles to make it 40-23 with 9:12 remaining in the third quarter and held a 54-39 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

After Howard took a 59-45 lead on a layup by Edmond with 8:24 left in the contest, the Lady Bears would go on an 8-0 run, while holding the Lady Bison scoreless for six minutes. A layup from
Tykyrah Williams capped off Morgan State's run and cut the deficit down to six points at 59-53 with 5:02 to play.

Unfortunately, that would be as close as Morgan State would get. The Lady Bears next three possessions would result in a turnover, followed by two straight missed layups.

Howard's Ayonna Williams ended the scoring drought for Howard with two free throws to increase the Lady Bison lead to 61-53 with 2:17 to play.

The Lady Bison shot 24-of-57 from the floor for 42 percent. Howard also knocked down seven three-pointers on 19 attempts for 36 percent. Morgan State connected on 1-of-8 (12 percent) from beyond the arc and was 24-of-67 (35 percent) from the field.

Morgan State held a 36-26 advantage in points in the paint and turned 19 Howard turnovers into 20 points. The Lady Bison outscored Morgan State, 26-11 in bench scoring.

The Lady Bears return to the road this Saturday, Feb. 10, when they visit the Savannah State Lady Tigers. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. from Tiger Arena in Savannah, Ga. Savannah State was a 79-41 winner over Allen on Monday.
