Lady Bears Push Past UMass Lowell In Final Game Of 2018, 61-49

Morgan State ends 11-game slide to close out non-conference slate

BALTIMORE, Md. (Dec. 29, 2018)-Adre'onia Coleman recorded a double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds, both game highs, to lead host Morgan State to a 61-49 non-conference victory on Saturday afternoon over UMass Lowell at Hill Field House.

The contest was the final one of 2018 for the Lady Bears, as well as their non-conference finale. It was also the last of five rematch games from 2017-18 season for the Lady Bears, as they would finish 1-4 in those games this time around.

Morgan State (2-12) would end a season-long 11-game losing streak with the win, while also ending a two-game losing skid at home.

Ashia McCalla came off the bench to score 15 points and had four rebounds and Naomi Bolasingh finished with nine points, as Morgan State improved to 2-0 all-time against the River Hawks.

UMass Lowell (4-9) was led by Brianna Rudolph and Bri Stiers, who each scored 12 points. Stiers grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, while Rudolph tallied a game-high four steals.

Morgan State has been hurt all season long by its opponents having big scoring third quarters. This afternoon the Lady Bears would outscore the River Hawks 17-10 in the third quarter, then turned up the defensive pressure to close out the game by limiting UMass Lowell to just seven points in the fourth.

The Lady Bears shot 21-of-57 (36.8 percent) from the floor, while the River Hawks were 17-of-61 (27.9 percent).

The hosts held a 24-16 cushion in points in the paint and a 12-6 advantage in second chance points. UMass Lowell outscored Morgan State 21-12 points off turnovers and 6-2 in fast break points.

Morgan State will now focus on Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) play the rest of the way, beginning with the conference opener on Saturday, Jan. 5 against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Tip-off is at 2 p.m. at Hill Field House.
