Coleman’s Double-Double Helps Lead Morgan State Past Washington Adventist, 60-43

Four Lady Bears Score Double Figures In First Win Of Season

BALTIMORE, Md. (Nov. 7, 2018)-Adre'onia Coleman led four Lady Bears in double figures scoring with a game-high 17 points, as Morgan State defeated visiting Washington Adventist, 60-43 on Wednesday evening at Hill Field House.

Morgan State (1-1), which improved to 4-0 all-time against the Shock, picked up its first win of the season, while Washington Adventist fell to 1-3.

Coleman would also haul in a game-high 10 rebounds to record a double-double and help Morgan State rebound from its season opening loss to Lincoln-Pa. the night before. Fellow senior Kayla Horn added 12 points, while junior Jihayah Chavis added 10 points. Freshman Ashia McCalla came off the bench and finished with 10 points.

The Shock scored the game's first points on a layup just seconds into the game and led 3-2 with 9:08 left in the first quarter. That would be the last time the visitors would hold a lead, as Morgan State used a 12-5 run, capped off by a layup by Chavis to give Morgan State a 14-8 lead with 2:53 left in the opening quarter.

Morgan State built on its 28-19 halftime advantage, by using an 11-2 spurt midway through the third quarter to take a 20-point (45-25) lead, its largest of the game.

The Lady Bears shot 38.9 percent (21-of-54) from the floor, including 4-of-17 (23.5 percent) from beyond the arc. Washington Adventist shot 13-of-52 (25 percent) for the game and went 3-for-23 (13 percent) from three-point range. Both teams each shot 14-of-22 (63.6 percent) from the charity line.

The Shock were led by Aryanna Hutcherson, who scored 13 points, while Amber Morman pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds and scored nine points, falling short of a double-double.

Morgan State will now take to the road for the first time this season, when they travel to West Hartford, Conn. to take part in the 2018 Preseason Women's National Invitational Tournament (WNIT). The Lady Bears will square off against host Hartford in the first round on Friday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. at Chase Arena. This will be the Lady Bears' first-ever appearance in the Preseason WNIT.
