BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 8, 2018)-Morgan State senior Tykyrah Williams and Braennan Farrar each scored a team-leading 16 points and Williams added a game-high 10 rebounds to record her second straight double-double and lead the Lady Bears to a 73-67 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory over Savannah State on Monday evening at Hill Field House. The game was moved up to 4 p.m. from its original 5:30 p.m. start due to the inclement weather.

Morgan State (10-6, 3-0 MEAC) overcame a slow start for the fourth consecutive game, but in the end was able to once again pull it out and match a season-long four-game winning streak. The victory was the Lady Bears' eighth straight at home in as many games this season and ninth overall dating back to last season.

The Lady Bears' 3-0 MEAC start is the first time the program has won its first three MEAC games since the 1999-00 season.

The Lady Bears also got production out of Jihayah Chavis, who finished with 11 points, dished out a game-high five assists and had four steals, while Lexus Spears finished with 11 points and seven rebounds, as Morgan State evened the all-time series with Savannah State at 6-6. Adre'onia Coleman came off the bench and added 11 points on 4-of-5 shooting and pulled down four rebounds to help the Lady Bears to a 35-30 rebounding advantage over Savannah State.

Savannah State (2-11, 0-2 MEAC), which has now lost seven straight games, scored 10 straight points in the midst of a 12-4 run to close out the first quarter and take a 20-14 advantage.

The Lady Tigers increased their lead to 11-points (31-20), their largest of the game, following a layup by Donasja Scott with 4:55 to play in the first half. Morgan State counter with eight straight points during an 11-2 run, capped off by back-to-back three-pointers from Farrar to bring the hosts within 34-33 with 35 seconds remaining in the half.

Savannah State would get a jumper from Alexxus Sowell to give the Lady Tigers a 36-33 lead at the intermission.

Morgan State scored the first four points to start the third quarter to reclaim its first lead (37-36) since 10-8 in the first quarter. The hosts reclaimed the lead for good at 41-40 after a layup by Spears and extend their advantage to 50-43 on another layup by Spears with 1:35 left in the period.

The Lady Tigers would not go away, pulling within 51-49 after two free throws from Scott with nine second left. Chavis then banked in a three-pointer from the right side as the horn sounded, giving Morgan State a 54-49 lead after three quarters of play.

Williams drained a three-pointer with 3:18 left in the game to give Morgan State a 68-59 advantage. Savannah State had one last run, scoring five straight points to cut the Morgan State lead to 68-64 with 1:15 to play. That would be as close as the Lady Tigers would get.

Savannah State was led by Kaylee Allen, who scored a game-high 19 points and had a team-best eight rebounds before fouling out. Scott tallied 15 points, six rebounds, two assists and three steals, while Heniaya Moton came off the bench to score 10 points to go with three assists and a game-high five steals.

The Lady Tigers, who entered the contest averaging 50.6 points per game, scored an additional 17 points thanks to their free throw shooting. The Lady Bears were called for 24 fouls, which allowed Savannah State to finish the game shooting 27-of-39 (69 percent) from the free throw line, while Morgan State shot 21 free throws, making 16 of them for 76 percent.

Morgan State will now take its undefeated MEAC record on the road for the first time in 2018, when it heads down to the 'Old North State' to take on both North Carolina A&T and North Carolina Central. The Lady Bears will first face the Lady Aggies on NC A&T on Saturday, Jan. 13 in Greensboro, N.C., before traveling to Durham, N.C. to battle the Eagles of NCCU on Monday, Jan. 15.
