BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 6, 2018)-Morgan State hosts Florida A&M in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest this Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hill Field House. Morgan State and the Rattlers enter the game both coming off of MEAC opening victories.
BEAR CLAWS: Morgan State (8-6, 1-0 MEAC) is riding a two-game winning streak, following its 63-50 victory over Maryland Eastern Shore in the MEAC opener on Wednesday.
Adre'onia Coleman grabbed a game– and season-high 16 rebounds and added 14 points to record her second consecutive double-double.
Lexus Spears fell shy of a double-double, finishing with a game-high 17 points of 5-of-99 shooting and nine rebounds. Spears is averaging a team-high 14.5 points and 7.0 rebounds to lead the Lady Bears.
Braennan Farrar is adding 12 points and lead the team in assists (53) and steals (39). Morgan State is averaging 63.1 points per contest and giving up 63.9 per outing.
SNAKE VENOM: Florida A&M (3-11, 1-0 MEAC) ended a four-game losing skid with a 74-59 home victory over Howard on Wednesday. Florence Ouattara scored a game-high 16 points and recorded five assists and six steals, both game highs. Ecenur Yurdakul scored 12 points and Dy'Manee Royal tallied 10 points in the victory. Shalaundra Burney-Robinson grabbed a game-high nine rebounds, scored seven points and had a game-high two blocked shots prior to fouling out. Ouattara has paced the Rattlers with 15.4 points per game, while Burney-Robinson is adding 10.5 points, 8.2 rebounds per game and a team-leading 14 blocked shots. Shakeyrra Morrison leads the team with 8.4 rebounds per outing. The Rattlers are averaging 60.8 points and allowing 69.7 per game.
MORGAN STATE VS. FAMU SERIES NOTES: Florida A&M (FAMU) leads the all-time series, 35-13. The Rattlers swept last season's series and have won three straight over Morgan State. FAMU defeated the Lady Bears, 61-26 last season at Hill Field House (1/30).
NEXT UP: Morgan State will conclude its three-game homestand when it hosts Savannah State on Monday, Jan. 8 at 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House.

Adre'onia Coleman grabbed a game- and season-high 16 rebounds and added 14 points to record her second consecutive double-double, as the Morgan State Lady Bears defeated the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, 63-50 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener both for teams at Hill Field House. Coleman, who was coming off an 11-point, 10-rebound performance at UMass Lowell (12/28), grabbed 11 defensive rebounds Wednesday night against Eastern Shore, while adding two steals, two assists and a block.
Lexus Spears fell shy of a double-double, finishing with a game-high 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting and nine rebounds, as Morgan State (8-6, 1-0 MEAC) improved to 6-0 at home this season. The victory also marked career coaching win No. 360 for Morgan State head coach Ed Davis. Morgan State out rebounded the Hawks, 50-37 and held a 23-7 advantage in second chance points. The Lady Bears finished the game shooting 88 percent (23-of-26) from the charity line, while MDES went 16-of-30 (53 percent).
DEFENDING HOME: Morgan State will look to improve to 7-0 at home this season when it entertains Florida A&M on Monday, Jan. 8. The Lady Bears remained unbeaten at Hill Field House this season, when it defeated Maryland Eastern Shore, 63-50 on Wednesday to improve to 6-0 at home with the win. The Lady Bears' other wins included a 62-51 victory over FIU (12/4), a 55-43 defeat of NJIT (12/2), a 61-41 victory over Mount St. Mary's (Nov. 26) and two wins against Division II foes, Lincoln-Pa. (60-41) and Cheyney (123-53) in the home opener.

Edward Davis Jr. secured his 360th career coaching victory, following the Lady Bears' 63-50 win over Maryland Eastern Shore in the MEAC opener on Wednesday, Jan. 3.
SPEARS NAMED MEAC CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK: MSU senior forward
Lexus Spears was named MEAC Co-Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday, Jan. 2. It was the second MEAC honor for Spears this season, who was named MEAC Player of the Week on Dec. 5, 2017. Spears scored a game-high 21 points on 10-of-12 shooting to lead the Lady Bears to a 65-59 win at UMass Lowell (12/28). Spears also added seven rebounds, an assist and a steal in the victory, which gave Morgan State its first non-conference winning record at 7-6, since the 2008-09 team went 8-4 during non-conference play.
SPEARS EARNS 3RD MADNESS HONOR: Lexus Spears was named Madness Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week (1/1) by the staff of
College Sports Madness for the second consecutive week. It was the third honor this season for Spears, who also received the honor on Dec. 4 and Dec. 11. A native of Jacksonville, Fla., Spears finished with 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting to lead four Morgan State players in double figures scoring in a 73-68 road loss at Marshall on Dec. 6. Spears would also add four rebounds and a block in the loss, which snapped the Lady Bears' season-long four-game winning streak.
LADY BEARS SCORE SCHOOL RECORD 123 POINTS: The Lady Bears' 123 points in their victory over Cheyney (11/13) set a new school record for points in a game by Morgan State. The previous mark was 115 points against the University of Baltimore (1/17/83). The 70-point victory is the second largest margin of victory in school history behind an 82-point (102-20) victory over Coppin State (2/13/77).
