Kendley's 28 lifts Bears over Maryland Eastern Shore, 85-82

BALTIMORE, Md. --  Tiwian Kendley scored 28 points, including the last seven for Morgan State, and the Bears rallied from 18 points down in the second half to defeat Maryland-Eastern Shore on Wednesday night at Hill Field House.

Logan McIntosh's jumper five minutes into the second half had the Hawks up 65-47 but the Bears scored the next 16 points. A layup by Cameron Martez made it 65-63 with 6:41 remaining. Over the next nine minutes, Maryland-Eastern Shore missed nine shots and had five turnovers while Phillip Carr was leading the charge with eight points.

McIntosh ended the drought at the 6:06 mark and had the lead up to six, but a steal and assist by Cameron Martez and Tiwian's layup with 49 seconds left put the Bears up 78-77 with 49 seconds to go.

McIntosh answered and picked up a steal but the Hawks missed two free throws. Kendley then made five of six free throws in the final 10 seconds to secure the win.

"The guys did a good job defensively down the stretch," Todd Bozeman said about his team's defensive run. "I thought that Azariah Sykes (7 rebs, 2 stls) was huge for us tonight defensively because (UMES) was playing smaller guys. David Syfax (13 pts, 5 rebs) did a yeoman's job as well."

"It was a team effort."

Carr posted his eighth double-double of the season by finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds for Morgan State who ended a seven-game losing (5-9, 1-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference).

"We had to be resilient," said Carr about the Bears' play in the second half. "We had to come out a little stronger. We had to play more aggressively on defense. That's what we did."

McIntosh had 23 and Miryne Thomas 18 for the Hawks (4-12, 0-1).

Morgan State stays at the confines of Hill Field House for a Saturday meeting with Florida A&M. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
