Men's Tennis Opens Season with Loss at Old Dominion

NORFOLK, Va. -- The Morgan State men's tennis team (0-1) was shutout 7-0 in the 2018 season opener at Old Dominion (1-0) on Saturday at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va.
 
Old Dominion clinched the win at 4-0, but played out the remaining singles matches.
 
The Monarchs jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the doubles points, as Jannik Giesse/Francois Musitelli beat Arjun Ramakrishnan/Nihit Rawal 6-1 on Court No. 3 and Vincent Schneider/Jacob Nicolussi also won 6-3 versus Lucas Krusinski/Sebastian Lopez on Court No. 2.
 
Ogukhan Ceylan gave Old Dominion a 2-0 lead with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Jannik Giesse in No. 4 singles. Aziz Kijametovic extended ODU's lead to 3-0 when he recorded a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Arjun Ramakrishnan.
 
Francois Musitelli clinched the match for the Monarchs after defeating Nihit Rawal 6-1, 6-0.
 
Krusinski had a quite a battle at No. 2 before eventually falling to Vincent Schneider (6-7, 6-4, 6-3).  Old Dominion also posted wins versus Sebastian Lopez at No. 3 (6-2, 1-6, 6-4) and Shrey Gupta at No. 6 (6-1, 6-3) to ultimately give the Monarchs a clean sweep.  
 
Next up for the Bears
Morgan State will be right back in action when they travel to face Temple on Friday morning, January 19 at Legacy Tennis Center. First serve is set for 8 a.m.
