Box Score BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 27, 2017)-
Braennan Farrar scored a game-high 17 points to lead four Lady Bears in double figures soring, as Morgan State defeated crosstown rival Coppin State, 71-42 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest on Monday evening at Hill Field House.

The contest was the home finale for the Lady Bears, and was 'Senior Night' for
Britashia Burns,
Ivy Harrington and
Jayde Duncan, who were all making their final regular season appearances in front of the Hill Field House faithful.

Morgan State (8-20, 6-9 MEAC) led the entire game and also got double figures from
Chelsea Mitchell, who finished with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Zuri White added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds and Jihaya Chavis came off the bench to score eight points. It marked the first time this season that all 11 Morgan State players scored in a game.

Coppin State (8-19, 8-7 MEAC), which had a three-game winning streak snapped, as well as a three-game winning streak over Morgan State snapped, was led by Candice Beverly's double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds, both team highs. Vanessa Neal finished with 10 points, while Chance Graham grabbed eight rebounds.Â

The Lady Bears outscored Coppin State, 34-10 inside the paint. Known this season for its defense, the Lady Bears forced 28 turnovers out of the Eagles with 17 of them coming by way of steals. Morgan State would turn those turnovers into 29 points. The hosts bench also stepped up, holding a 24-3 advantage over the guests.

Morgan State held Coppin State to under 10 points in each of the first three quarters. The Lady Bears used a 14-5 run to start the second quarter to take a 25-13 advantage. Morgan State would take a 30-17 lead into the locker room.

The hosts then used a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 41-21 after Williams hit a free throw with 3:23 left in the third quarter and never looked back.

The Lady Bears will close out the regular season on Thursday, March 3, when they travel to Princess Anne, Md. to take on the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Hytche Athletic Center. The Lady Hawks are coming off a 71-40 thumping at Howard on Monday, in a game which they were held to just one point in the second quarter.
