Lady Bears Pick Up Fourth Straight Win; Knock Off Savannah State, 50-43

BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 18, 2017)-Don't look now, but after dropping a season-long 13 consecutive games, the Lady Bears have since won a season-high four straight. It's the longest multi-game winning streak for the Lady Bears, since last season when the team won five straight.

The latest victim during Morgan State's run was Savannah State, as the Lady Bears defeated the Lady Tigers by a score of 50-43 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game on Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House. With the win the Lady Bears avenged an overtime loss earlier this season at Savannah, and evened up the all-time series at 5-5.

Braennan Farrar scored a game-high 17 points, while also adding seven rebounds, three assists and a game-high three steals. Chelsea Mitchell and Tykyrah Williams each scored nine points, while Zuri White led the Lady Bears with eight rebounds.

Morgan State (6-19, 4-8 MEAC) forced 22 turnovers out of Savannah State, 11 of which were steals. The Lady Bears would shoot 31 percent (16-of-51) from the floor for the game and knocked down 16-of-22 at the line for 72 percent.

The Lady Tigers (10-15, 7-5 MEAC), who entered the game on a four-game winning streak, was led by Tiyonda Davis, who scored 15 points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Davis would also add a game-high four blocked shots.

Savannah State shot 35 percent (17-of-48) for the game and converted on 3-of-15 (20 percent) from three-point range. The Lady Tigers also knocked down 50 percent (6-for-12) from the charity stripe.

Morgan State will return to action on Monday, Feb. 20, when the Lady Bears travel to Dover, Del. to take on the Hornets of Delaware State. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. at Memorial Hall. Delaware State was off on Saturday. The two teams last met nine days earlier in Baltimore with the Lady Bears earning a 74-47 victory on Feb. 11.
