Defense powers Delaware State to 56-45 win over the Bears

BALTIMORE, Md. --  Devin Morgan scored 18 points and Delaware State continued its season-long win streak, now at four games, with a 56-45 win over Morgan State on Saturday.

Morgan also had six rebounds and tied for the team lead with three assists. Artem Tavakalyan added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Hornets (9-18, 6-6 MEAC).

Delaware State had its best defensive effort of the season, turning in a season best for points allowed while limiting Morgan State (10-13, 7-3) to just 23.6 percent shooting and 15 total field goals.

Tiwian Kendley had 17 points for the Bears, whose loss pushes them a full two games behind N.C. Central for the conference lead.

Morgan State led 31-22 with 16:03 remaining before the Hornets came storming back. A 9-0 Delaware State run tied it, and three Kevan Walker free throws with 11:11 to play gave the Hornets the lead they held the rest of the way.

The Bears will be highlighted nationally this Monday (Feb. 13) night as ESPNU showcases their matchup with the Howard Bison at The Burr Gymnasium in Washington, D.C. Tip-off is scheduled for 9 p.m. (ET).
