BALTIMORE, Md. -- It was a good night all around for Morgan State as they honored head coach
Todd Bozeman for winning the most games ever as a head coach for the Bears. Then they pounced on the Florida A&M Rattlers in their 77-60 victory at Hill Field House on Monday night.
Tiwian Kendley led the Bears with 21 points followed by
Antonio Gillespie, who had season-high 17 points.
Martez Cameron continued to shine with 10 assists on the night.
The Bears jumped the Rattlers from the start, scoring the first 10 points of the game and never showed any signs of letting up. Even though the Rattlers drew within 18-14 a little later on, the Bears never gave up the lead. They scored seven unanswered to build the advantage back to 25-14 and crushed the Rattler hopes of a comeback for good.
Morgan State (10-11, 7-1 MEAC) never allowed the Rattlers to get into their rhythm. They limited Florida A&M (5-16, 3-5 MEAC) to just six offensive rebounds in the game. That was something Coach Bozeman was very pleased about.
"They did a good job," said Bozeman. "Earlier in the year, we were giving teams second chance opportunities. That's why (opponents') field goal percentages were better. They've done a better job at cutting those down."
"It was our bigs doing their job boxing out, holding off their guys," Kendley added. "Corralling the rebounds and everybody crashing the boards hard."
The Bears would build a 41-24 lead that they took into halftime. They would lead by as many as 25 in the second half as they were never threatened again.
Florida A&M had no players score in double figures as Justin Ravenel led the Rattlers with nine points. The Bears next game is Saturday evening when they host North Carolina Central (15-6, 6-1). Tip is at 4 pm.
