Box Score ORANGEBURG, S.C. (Jan. 23, 2017)-Bryeasha Blair scored a game-high 21 points and Brittany Drumgoole came off the bench to record a double-double with 13 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to lead South Carolina State to a 50-46 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory over visiting Morgan State on Monday evening at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

The win was the first for SC State (4-12, 1-4 MEAC) in conference play this season, while Morgan State dropped to (2-17, 0-6 MEAC). The Lady Bulldogs, who lead the all-time series against Morgan State, 37-26, also ended a two-game losing streak to the Lady Bears with the win.

Both teams entered the contest winless in MEAC play and with identical 10-game losing skids.

SC State used a 6-0 spurt to take a 19-17 lead and force a Morgan State timeout with 4:41 with left in the second quarter. Morgan State evened the score at 19 all on two free throws from Janessa Fauntroy with 4:31 remaining in the contest.

The Lady Bulldogs however would score the next seven points in part of a 14-5 run to close out the half and take a 33-24 lead into the locker room at the break.

SC State took its largest lead of the game (12 points) at 39-27 when JaQuanna Murray hit a free throw with 6:12 remaining in the third quarter. Morgan State countered with a 9-3 spurt, capped off by a three-pointer from Kaylin Ellis to help the Lady Bears pull within 42-36 after three quarters of play.

Ellis would knock down her second trey of the game at the 8:03 mark of the fourth quarter to bring Morgan State within 44-41, but that would be as close as the Lady Bears would get.

The Lady Bulldogs would twice up their lead to six points, the last coming on two free throws from Blair to make it a 49-43 game with 2:05 left in the contest.

Tykyrah Williams would drain a three-pointer with seven seconds left to cut the deficit to 49-46, but Blair would convert on one of two free throws to seal the deal.

Morgan State was led by Williams, who finished with a team-high 11 points and Zuri White added eight points and a team-high eight rebounds. Chelsea Mitchell and Ellis each added six points.

Both teams made 16 shots and Morgan State took eight more attempts (58) than SC State. The Lady Bulldogs converted on 15-of-24 (62.5 percent) from the free throw line, while Morgan State shot 10-for-14 (71 percent).

The Lady Bears will visit crosstown rival Coppin State on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. at the Physical Education Complex. Coppin State (3-15, 3-3 MEAC) dropped a 49-45 decision at home against Norfolk State on Monday.
