Women’s Basketball Returns Home To Host Defending MEAC Champion N.C. A&T

BALTIMORE, Md. (Jan. 16, 2017)-Morgan State will look for its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory of the season, as well as put an end to its current eight-game losing skid, when it visits the defending MEAC Tournament champion North Carolina A&T Lady Aggies on Monday evening. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House.
 
BEAR CLAWS: The Lady Bears (2-14, 0-3 MEAC) suffered yet another close defeat, when they dropped a 51-48 decision at Florida A&M (1/9). Tykyrah Williams scored a team-high 12 points and Jihayah Chavis came off the bench to add nine points in the loss. Braennan Farrar has paced Morgan State with 13.2 points per game, while Williams is adding 10.3 points. Williams and Zuri White are both averaging a team-best 5.6 rebounds for the Lady Bears.
 
DAWG BISCUTS: North Carolina A&T (5-12, 1-3 MEAC) is coming off a 65-57 road loss at Coppin State on Saturday. It was the second consecutive loss for the Lady Aggies. Whitney Martin came off the bench to score 13 points and Kala Green and Alexus Lessears each finished with 12 points against Coppin State. Dana Brown is averaging a team-leading 12.4 points per game, while Aliyah Kilpatrick is scoring 10.7 points per game. Kilpatrick also leads the Aggies in steals (50) and assists (52).    
 
MSU VS. N.C. A&T SERIES NOTES: The Lady Aggies have won five straight over Morgan State and lead the all-time series, 37-21. Last season N.C. A&T defeated Morgan State, 65-55 in Baltimore (2/22).
 
NEXT UP: The Lady Bears will be back on the road this upcoming weekend when they travel to Savannah, Ga. To face Savannah State on Saturday, Jan. 21. Tip-off is at 4 p.m. at Tiger Arena. Morgan State will then visit South Carolina State on Monday, Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m. in Orangeburg, S.C.
 
STREAK REACHES EIGHT STRAIGHT: The Lady Bears' current losing streak has reached a season-long eight games, following their 51-48 loss at Florida A&M (1/9). The streak surpasses the previous five-game losing skid Morgan State had earlier in the season.
 
MOVING UP: Braennan Farrar scored four points in the loss at Florida A&M (1/9), giving her 1,040 points to surpass former Lady Bear Tracy Lewis (1,039 points from 1989-93) for 13th all-time at Morgan State. Farrar is now 25 points away from passing Vinstel Watson (1,064 points from 1987-89) for 12th-place at Morgan State.
 
IT'S BEEN AWHILE: The Lady Bears have dropped their last six MEAC regular season contests, dating back to the last three games from the 2015-16 season. Morgan State's last regular season MEAC victory was a 66-55 victory at home over North Carolina Central (2/20/16).
 
FARRAR JOINS THE 1,000-POINT CLUB: Braennan Farrar became the 14th member in program history to join the 1,000-point club at Morgan State. Farrar, who entered the Richmond game (12/27) needing nine points to reach the plateau, scored her ninth and final point of the game on a layup at the 7:27 mark in the third quarter. She now has 1,036 points for her career.
 
A ROUGH DECEMBER: The Lady Bears have a combined record of 7-38 in the month of December, dating back to the 2010-11 campaign, including a 1-6 mark this season.
