#4 Coppin State Defeats #5 Morgan State In MEAC Quarterfinal, 63-53

Norfolk, Va. (March 10, 2016)-Janelle Lane scored a game-high 20 points to lead four players in double figures to help Coppin State pull away to a 63-53 win over Morgan State in the quarterfinal round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) tournament at the Norfolk Scope Arena on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Eagles will play South Carolina State on Friday at 12 noon in the semifinal round.

The game was well contested before the Number 4 seed Lady Eagles (16-15) used a 17-10 spurt to take a 34-24 lead at the half. Lane set the tone by tallying 14 of her points in the first 20 minutes.     

The Coppin State defense limited the Lady Bears to 29 percent shooting while getting 12 of its points off Morgan State turnovers.
               
Morgan State (13-17), the Number 5 seed, was able to outscore their crosstown rivals in the third period but still trailed, 51-44.
               
Zuri White and Braennan Farrar combined to lead a surge by Morgan State that cut the deficit to 55-51 at the 2:55 mark of the final stanza.
     
But Jordan Swails, Genesis Lucas, Keena Samuels and Lane, spurred an 8-0 run over a 2:38 span to open the lead and secure the win that sends them to the semifinal round.
               
Amber Griffin, Samuels and Swails each scored 11 to balance Lane's contribution.
           
Farrar led her team with 12 and White contributed 11.
