Box Score

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (Feb. 8, 2016)-For the first time this season the Lady Bears' basketball team has recorded a four-game winning streak, following their 62-56 road victory over South Carolina State on Monday evening in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game at Smith-Hammond-Middleton Memorial Center.

The Lady Bears improved to 10-12 on the season and 8-2 in the MEAC, while South Carolina State fell to 9-12, 5-6 in the MEAC.

Morgan State's current season-long four-game winning streak is the program's longest in three years since the 2012-13 squad went on a five-game winning streak from Feb. 18-March 11, 2013, before falling to Howard by two points in the quarterfinals of the MEAC Tournament.

Braennan Farrar led the Lady Bears with a game-high 17 points, despite a 3-for-12 shooting performance, including three baskets from long range. Tykyrah Williams and Lexus Spears each added 11 points and Zuri White finished with a game-high 13 rebounds.

S.C. State was led by Toni Grier and Brittany Drumgoole, who both came off the bench to score 15 and 10 points, respectively. Drumgoole would grab a team-high seven rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.

The hosts held a 17-7 lead after the first quarter, but the Lady Bears responded with a 13-4 run in the second quarter to pull within 21-20 with 4:23 to play. Morgan State, which outscored the Lady Bulldogs 21-9 in the quarter, would get a layup by White as time expired to give the guests a 28-26 halftime lead.

Morgan State would never relinquish the lead the rest of the contest and went up by as much as 11 points (49-38) in the fourth quarter on a fast break layup by Benedicta Makakala with 8:45 to play.

The Lady Bears will now head to the Tidewater area of Virginia for two important MEAC contests. The Lady Bears will first take on the Norfolk State Spartans on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. at Echols Hall, before heading to Hampton to take on the Lady Pirates on Monday, Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. inside the HU Convocation Center.
