NORFOLK, Va. -- Jordan Butler had 13 points, nine rebounds and a career high-tying seven blocks, helping Norfolk State to a school-record 17 blocks and a 79-73 win over Morgan State on Saturday night.
Alex Long had 12 points and four blocks, and Preston Bungei added three blocks for Norfolk State (13-13, 9-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference), whose previous record for blocks was 13.
The Spartans led by 13 at intermission and maintained a comfortable lead for the entirety of the second half. The closest that Morgan State came was Phillip Carr's 3-pointer with 29 seconds left to pull the Bears within five at 78-73.
The Bears were unable to force a turnover, and Norfolk State's Jeff Short made one of two free throws to set the final score.
Morgan State (5-18, 3-7) lost despite a banner night from Cedric Blossom, who set career marks with 28 points and 15 rebounds, including six offensive. Rasean Simpson finished with 14 points with nine boards and three steals. Carrr and Andre Horne added 11 points each.
