BALTIMORE, Md. – Quinton Chievous had 28 points with 18 rebounds, and scored Hampton's lone field goal in overtime as Hampton held on to beat Morgan State 83-80 in overtime at Hill Field House.

Chievous shot 11 of 19 from the field, had three assists, three steals and finished with eight offensive rebounds for Hampton (6-7, 2-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic). Brian Darden scored 23 and made five 3-pointers for the Pirates.

Donte Pretlow hit a 3-which was the Bears' last field goal of the game -- to make it 78-71 with 2:45 to play in regulation. Kalin Fisher then hit a 3-poiner with 2:26 left to trigger a 7-0 Hampton run.

Chievous made a pair of free throws to tie the game at 78 with 27 seconds left. Morgan State (2-12, 0-1) shot 0 for 5 from the field in overtime. The Pirates led 82-80 when
Cedric Blossom was stripped in the paint by Reginald Johnson (13 pts) in the waning seconds. Johnson was immediately fouled and sent to the line where he split a pair of free throws to seal Hampton's victory.

Senior guard
Donte Pretlow finished with a career-high 20 points (7-15 FG) to lead the Bears, who shot 39 percent (27-69) from the field. The Baltimore product also had a game-high six assists to go along with six rebounds.

Rasean Simpson had 11 and
Phillip Carr recorded a double-double by posting 10 points and 10 rebounds. Carr also added three blocked shots.

The Bears scored 23 points off of Hampton's 20 turnovers, while the Pirates outrebounded MSU by a commanding 57-40 margin.
