BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 2, 2015)-The Morgan State Lady Bears completed a successful two-game road swing with a 62-53 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) victory over crosstown rival Coppin State on Monday afternoon at the Physical Education Complex.
The win was the Lady Bears, who are on a two-game winning streak and winners of five of their last six games, picked up their second straight win over Coppin State to improve to 30-36 all-time against the Eagles.
Braenna Farrar scored a game-high 22 points and added four assists and four steals, both game highs to lead the visiting Lady Bears (8-12, 5-3 MEAC).
Tracey Carrington finished with 16 points and
Lexus Spears added 12 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds in the win.
Coppin State (3-16, 2-6 MEAC) was led by Janelle Lane, who scored eight of her team-high 12 points in the first half. Genesis Lucas tallied 11 points, six rebounds and had a game-high four assists. Jordan Swails finished with nine points and seven rebounds, while Bria Harris added nine points and had a game-high 10 rebounds to help the host Eagles hold a 42-39 rebounding advantage over Morgan State.
The Lady Bears forced 19 Coppin State turnovers and recorded 13 steals, while converting those Eagle turnovers into 17 points.

Coppin State, which has now lost three straight and losers of five of its last six games, broke a 10-10 tie with an 8-0 run and held a 19-12 lead with 7:52 left in the first half. The Eagles upped their lead to 23-16, following a layup by Keena Samuels with 4:20 to play.
Carrington responded with a three-pointer from the right wing, which triggered a 9-0 Morgan State run in a span of two minutes and 10 seconds. Carrington, who scored seven of the nine points during the run, ended it with a layup to tie the game at 25 all.
The host Eagles would go up four points 30-26 after Swails' layup with 10 seconds left, but Farrar knocked down a three-pointer off the glass as time expired to make it a 30-29 game at the break.
Coppin State led by as much as five points within the first eight minutes of the second half. The Eagles trailed 43-38 after a jumper from Coppin's Amber Griffin, but the visiting Lady Bears responded with a 10-4 run to take a 48-47 lead with 6:58 remaining.
Simone Sampson later hit back-to-back baskets in part of a 10-2 spurt to put the guests ahead 58-51 with 57 seconds left. Swails' steal and layup with 28 seconds remaining would end the scoring for Coppin State and a scoring drought of over four minutes for the Eagles and make it a 58-53 Morgan State advantage.
Morgan State shot 68 percent (13-of-19) from the free throw line, while Coppin State was 3-of-6 for 50 percent.
The Lady Bears return to Hill Field House with a mini two-game homestand when they host Savannah State on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m., before hosting South Carolina State on Monday, Feb. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
