KISSIMMEE, Fla. (Feb. 22, 2015)-The Lady Bears softball team concluded their road trip to the Sunshine State on Sunday, as they got in two games as part of the Citrus Classic on the final day of competition at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort. Morgan State would drop its opener to Elon, 5-2, before later falling to George Washington, 8-2.

Elon would finish the Citrus Classic with a perfect 4-0 mark, while George Washington went 3-2 for the weekend. The Lady Bears, who began their Florida swing with a four-game series against nearby Stetson, finished the weekend 0-6.

Morgan State (0-7) returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 25, when the face local foe Towson at 2 p.m. The game will be the home opener for the Towson Tigers.

Elon 5, Morgan State 2Emily Roper went 2-for-3, including a two-run homer and had 3RBI to lead the Phoenix to a 5-2 non-conference victory over Morgan State. Roper's home run came in the bottom of the first inning, as Elon jumped out to a 2-0 lead.

It would remain a 2-0 game until the fourth inning, when Madison Kadic reached on a Morgan State error, which allowed Eve Clausen to score an unearned run. The Phoenix increased their lead to 4-0 when Katie Rufo drew a bases loaded walk in the fifth inning, scoring Kara Shutt.

The Lady Bears finally got on the board with two runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Audrianna Alvarez doubled to left field to score
Claudette Tanabe-Smith and
Briana Jones later grounded out to short to score
Danielle Pitpit.

The Phoenix would add their final run in the bottom half of the sixth on a triple by Roper, which scored Hannah Olson.

Morgan State was led by Alvarez, who was 2-for-3 at the plate with a RBI. Pitpit finished 1-for-4 with a run scored and
Zina Constancia was 1-for-3.

Elon's Kayla Caruso improved to 3-0 on the season with the win for the Phoenix. Caruso pitched five innings and struckout six Morgan State batters.

The Phoenix recorded six stolen bases in the game.
