BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 15, 2015)-The Morgan State Lady Bears returned to Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House and were dealt a 64-56 loss to visiting Norfolk State.

Rae Corbo scored a game-high 25 points and connected on 4-of-5 from three-point range and had a game-high three steals for the Spartans. Kayla Roberts added 19 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds for Norfolk State, which swept the season series against Morgan State for the first time since 2006.

Morgan State (9-15, 6-5 MEAC) was led by
Tracey Carrington, who scored a team-high 18 points, to give her 1,464 points for her career and tie Shakira Smith (1,464 from 1997-01) for third-place on the Morgan State charts. A native of Baltimore, Carrington needs 111 more points to move into second all-time in scoring at Morgan. Carrington also grabbed one rebound against the Spartans to give her 547 for her career and tie Kimberly Harris (547 rebounds from 1998-01) for 11th all-time on the Lady Bear charts.

Braennan Farrar added 14 points.
Tykyrah Williams grabbed a team-high eight rebounds and had a game-high three steals in the loss for for the Lady Bears, who have dropped two straight and lost three of their last four games.

The Spartans (9-14, 8-4 MEAC) who entered the contest sitting in third-place in the league standings, jumped out to a 19-5 lead, following a three-pointer from Kayla Roberts with 10:36 remaining in the first half and never looked back.

Norfolk State, which never trailed in the game, matched its largest lead of the game of 15 points (23-8) following a free throw by Jazamine Gray with 7:46 to play in the first half. The Spartans would hold a 28-22 lead at the half.

Morgan State would conclude a 10-1 run, which carried over from the end of the first half, to cut the Spartans' lead to 29-27 after a layup by Carrington with 17:55 to play. Unfortunately, that would be as close as the Lady Bears would get, as Norfolk State countered with a 10-0 spurt in the next two minutes to up its lead to 39-27.

Trailing 50-37 with 9:32 to play, Morgan State made one last run, using a 13-6 run over a six minute span to pull within 56-50, following a three-pointer by Williams with 3:18 left in the game.

The Spartans would again put an end to any Morgan State comeback with their next six points all coming from the free throw line. Corbo would close out the scoring for Norfolk State with a layup with 1:01 to play to make it a 64-54 game.

Norfolk State shot 37.7 percent (20-of-53) from the field, while Morgan State went 20-of-57 (35.1 percent). The Spartans held a 47-28 rebounding advantage over Morgan State and outscored Morgan State, 10-4 in second chance points. Â

The Lady Bears will welcome Hampton to Hill Field House on Monday, Feb. 16 for a MEAC game at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Pirates, who are searching for their sixth straight MEAC Tournament title, have won seven straight games over Morgan State and leads the all-time series, 25-11. The Lady Pirates defeated Morgan State earlier this season, 63-43 in Hampton, Va. (12/8/14).
