BALTIMORE, Md. -- Secean Johnson had career highs of 22 points and 17 rebounds and UC Riverside rallied to beat Morgan State 81-72 on Monday afternoon at Hill Field House.
Trailing 41-35 at halftime, the Highlanders outscored the Bears 27-10 to open the second half.
After the Bears were within two following a
Donte Pretlow layup, 74-72, with four minutes left, Jaylen Bland made a 3-pointer and UC Riverside (9-5) scored the final seven points to notch its fourth win in a row while the Bears (2-9) dropped their sixth straight.
Johnson, a freshman, picked up his first double-double. Bland added 16 points, though he was only 4 of 13 from the arc. Gentrey Thomas added 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting and Alex Larsson 10 on 5-of-6.
The Highlanders shot 53 percent from the field, while the Bears shot 42 percent.
Phillip Carr led the Bears with a season-high 18 points to go along with eight rebounds, while freshman guard
Antonio Gillespie 15 points off the bench and
Cedric Blossom added 14 for the Bears. Pretlow finished with eight assists, six points and six rebounds.
Next Up: Morgan State will travel west to wrap the non-conference slate when they face Bakersfield on Thursday, Dec. 31. The Bears will bring in the New Year at CSU Northridge on Saturday, Jan. 2.
