Carrington's 24 Points Helps Lady Bears Defeat Delaware State, 64-56

DOVER, Del. (Jan. 10, 2015)-Morgan State's Tracey Carrington scored a game-high 24 points in her return and Braennan Farrar added 14 points, as the Lady Bears defeated Delaware State, 64-56 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game on Saturday afternoon at Memorial Hall. 
 
The win was the Lady Bears' first conference win of the season and their second win in the last three games. Morgan State (4-11, 1-2 MEAC) which has won three straight in Dover, now trails the all-time series, 40-32.
 
Carrington, who had missed the last seven-and-a-half games since suffering an injury just before halftime of the Bucknell game (12/3), scored 18 of her first half points in the second half.
 
Delaware State (1-11, 0-1 MEAC) was led by Amber Bogard, who scored a team-high 21 points. Tierra Hawkins recorded a double-double with 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting and pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds. Jade Washington finished with nine points, a game-high five assists and had a game-high three steals.
 
Delaware State held a 50-43 advantage with 7:56 remaining in the game, following a layup from Washington. But the Hornets would go scoreless for the next five minutes, as Morgan State used a 15-0 run to take a 58-50 lead and grab control of the game.
 
The Lady Bears shot 29 percent (17-of-58) from the field, while host Delaware State shot 47.9 percent (23-of-48). Morgan State also connected on 27-of-36 from the free throw line for 75 percent, while the Hornets shot 81.8 percent on 9-of-11 shooting.
 
Morgan State's bench outscored Delaware State, 13-0. The Lady Bears forced 21 Delaware State turnovers, turning those into 24 points and also held a 21-11 advantage in second chance points.
 
However, the Hornets outscored Morgan State, 40-18 in the paint and held a 12-0 advantage in fast break points.

The Lady Bears held a 40-30 rebounding advantage over Delaware State. Zuri White led Morgan State with a game-high 12 rebounds.
 
Delaware State led by as much as 11 points (29-18) in the first half after Mikah Aldridge hit a three-pointer with 1:22 remaining in the half. The Hornets would take a 29-22 lead at the intermission.
 
Morgan State returns home to host the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game on Monday, Jan. 12. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House. UMES leads the all-time series, 40-32, following a 91-46 home victory over Morgan State last season in Princess Anne, Md.
 
The Lady Hawks (5-7, 2-0 MEAC), who have not played since an 86-73 home win over Monmouth (12/30), ended a three-game skid with the win to conclude the 2014 year. Alexis Udoji scored a game-high 22 points and added 10 rebounds, while Moengaroa Subritzky also recorded a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. TeAmber Burke came off the bench to score 20 points, while Shawnee Sweeney finished with 12 points. Jessica Lane tallied a team-high six assists and had a game-high five steals in a reserve roll.
