BALTIMORE, Md. – The Morgan State men's tennis team was swept in its home-opener by Monmouth 4-0 on an overcast and chilly Friday afternoon in Baltimore. The Bears fall to 1-7 with the loss.
The matchup opened with the No. 2 doubles team of Dmitry Borodkin and
Jannick Tash dropping to Freddy Marinkowski and Ramy Bekheit, 8-2. Morgan State's standout pairing of
Duk Young-Park and
Evan Ward, which entered the match ranked 48
th in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), was outlasted at No. 1 by Victor Pugliese and Chrisitna Vieir to seal the point for the Hawks.
Following doubles play, inclement weather forced play to an indoor facility. Pugliese notched a 6-1, 7-5 win over Young-Park at No. 1, Kumthonkittkul edged Ward at No. 3, 7-5, 6-4 and
Przemyslaw Filipek rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 2 to clinch the win for MU.
Morgan State will face non-conference opponent George Washington today (Saturday, March 22) at 3 p.m.
