BALTIMORE, Md. (Dec. 13, 2014)-Brittany Snow recorded a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds and Kori Bayne-Walker finished with 10 points, including a layup as time expired to give visiting Stony Brook a 50-48 non-conference victory over Morgan State on Saturday afternoon at Hill Field House.
Jessica Ogunnorin grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds and had a game-high two blocks for the Seawolves (4-5), who ended a four-game losing skid with the win and improved to 5-1 all-time against Morgan State. The Lady Bears on the other hand had their season-long losing streak reach six games.
Morgan State (2-8), which was playing without its leading scorer in senior captain Tracey Carrington, was led by freshman Braennan Farrar, who scored a career-high 21 points, including Morgan State's final 12 points of the game. Ivy Harrington added nine points, six rebounds and had a game-high three steals for the Lady Bears, who suffered their first home loss of the season in three games. Lexus Spears hauled in a career-tying 11 rebounds for the Lady Bears.
The Lady Bears, who trailed 31-25 at the intermission, gave up a three-point play to Ogunnorin to begin the second half, which gave the Seawolves their largest lead of the game at 34-25 with 19:27 to play.
Farrar would later convert a three-point play for the Lady Bears to cap off a 15-7 spurt over the next 13 minutes to give Morgan State a 40-38 advantage with 6:17 remaining in the game.
The two teams traded baskets back-and-forth until Farrar's 12th consecutive point, a layup with 59 seconds remaining, evened the score at 48 all.
The Lady Bears had a chance for the win, after Snow missed a layup with 37 seconds left. However, Eva Myers missed on a three-point attempt with seven seconds left and Bayne-Walker grabbed the rebound and Stony Brook called timeout with six seconds remaining, thus setting up the stage for Bayne-Walker's game winner.
Morgan State shot 19-of-56 (33.9 percent) from the floor, including 1-for-13 from the three-point arc. Stony Brook finished the game connecting on 20-of-64 from the field and was 4-for-14 (28.6 percent) from three-point range.
The Lady Bears will remain in non-conference play to close out the 2014 year when they travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. to take part in the Christmas Classic (Dec. 20-21) hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The Lady Bears will face host Chattanooga on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 4 p.m. at McKenzie Arena. This will be the only regular season tournament for Morgan State this season.
