UC Irvine Tops Morgan State, 75-63

Box Score IRVINE, Calif. -- Alex Young scored 18 points Thursday night and UC Irvine beat Morgan State 75-63.
 
Will Davis II and John Ryan each scored 14 and Mamadou Ndiaye added 12 as UC Irvine (8-7) outshot Morgan State (3-10) from the field 55.8 to 37.5 percent. Davis also grabbed 10 rebounds.
 
The Bears jumped to an 8-0 lead, but the Anteaters replied with a 9-0 run and the lead changed hands three more times until Young hit back-to-back 3-pointers, sparking a 10-0 run for a 32-26 UC Irvine halftime lead.
 
The Anteaters steadily pulled away in the second half as Davis became more assertive, scoring back-to-back buckets at 11:41 for a 53-35 lead, and Ryan stepped up to score 13 points in the half.
 
Justin Black led Morgan State with 17 points, Ian Chiles scored 16 and Anthony Hubbard added 14 points and 11 rebounds.


The Bears shot 38 percent from the floor and committed just six turnovers.  UCI had a narrow 37-34 edge on the boards and the Anteaters had 13 turnovers.

The Bears will host conference opponent South Carolina State on Jan. 11th at Hill Field House.
