Bears Fall in Overtime to the Aggies, 68-67

Box Score

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Morgan State guard Justin Black hit a fallaway baseline jumper with just under 3 seconds remaining in overtime, but there was just enough time left for Richaud Pack to answer with a driving layup. Anthony Hubbard attempted a layup at the buzzer that missed to give North Carolina A&T a thrilling 68-67 victory at the Corbett Sports Center.

Morgan State (6-11, 4-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) led the Aggies (7-13, 3-2) for most of the night, but could never really pull away.

Pack came off a screen and buried a 3-pointer to knot the game at 57 apiece with 2:48 left in regulation. The teams traded a pair of free throws each to tie the game at 59 with 1:27 remaining. The Bears finished regulation with a pair of missed 3-pointers by Black and Blake Bozeman to send the game into overtime.

Black led the Bears with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Ian Chiles posted a double-double with 19 points and a season-high 11 rebounds, to go along with three blocks. Anthony Hubbard and Blake Bozeman added 7 points each.

Morgan State out-rebounded the Aggies by a 50-43 margin and outscored A&T 17-6 in second chance points.

The Bears also forced the Aggies into committing 13 turnovers and scored 15 points off the miscues.

Lamont Middleton and Richaud Pack absolutely led the way for the Aggies. The duo combined for 51 of the team's 68 points. Middleton finished with a game-high 26 points on 6 of 14 shooting. Pack scored 25 points and was a perfect 10 for 10 on free throws.

The Aggies shot 29 of 37 (78 percent) from the free throw line, compared to the Bears who shot 58 percent (14-24).
Black scored 7 points to get the Bears off to an early 11-4 lead. The Aggies countered with a 10-3 run to cut the lead to 19-16, until Chiles stepped in. The 7-foot-2 center dunked on Waylan Siverand to ignite a mini-run as the Bears pulled out to a 28-17 advantage.

The Aggies closed the lead to 31-29, the closest the score had been since the opening moments of the game. Donte Pretlow hit a contested jumper from the baseline to give the Bears a 33-29 halftime lead.

Despite limiting the Aggies to 6-of-18 shooting from the field and 1-for-7 from 3-point territory, the Bears only held a slight advantage at the break.

Morgan State will travel to Durham, N.C. to take on North Carolina Central on Monday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m.  The Eagles (13-5, 4-1 MEAC) rolled past Coppin State 87-63 at home on Saturday and is currently riding a 5-game winning streak.
