Lady Bears To Face Hampton Tonight On ESPN3

HAMPTON, Va. (Jan. 20, 2014)-The Lady Bears will conclude their visit to the Tidewater area with a visit to four-time defending conference regular season and tournament champion, Hampton on Monday, Jan. 20 at 6 p.m. at the HU Convocation Center. The Hampton contest will air live on ESPN3.com, and will mark the fifth MEAC/ESPN telecast for the Lady Bears in six seasons.
 
BEAR CLAWS: Morgan State (2-14, 0-3 MEAC), which has lost a season-high seven straight and 12 of its last 13 games, was dealt a 61-52 home loss at Norfolk State on Saturday. Tracey Carrington scored a game-high 22 points and had a game-high four steals, while Danielle Robinson added 12 points in the loss. The Lady Bears have been paced by Carrington, who is averaging a team-high 22.2 and a team-leading 4.8 rebounds, while Danielle Forrest is averaging 8.2 points. Simone Sampson has a team-leading 11 blocked shots to go with 4.7 rebounds and Ivy Harrington leads Morgan State with 31 steals.
 
PIRATES' LOG: Hampton (13-4, 4-0 MEAC) is coming off an 80-52 victory over Coppin State on Saturday to record its 34th straight victory over MEAC foes, dating back to the 2011-12 season. Malia Tate-DeFreitas led four players in double figures scoring with a game-high 24 points. It was her sixth 20-point effort of the season. Alyssa Bennett and Nicole Hamilton each added 18 points and Kenia Cole came off the bench to score 10 points. Tate-DeFreitas leads three Hampton players in double figures scoring with 19.1 per game. Bennett is averaging 17.2 points and a team-high 8.9 rebounds per game. Hamilton is scoring 13.7 points, while leading the Lady Pirates in assists (92), steals (38) and blocks (40).
 
MSU VS. HAMPTON SERIES NOTES: Hampton has won six straight games over Morgan State and leads the all-time series, 24-11. The Lady Pirates swept last season's series, defeating the Lady Bears 66-60 in Hampton, Va. (1/19), before defeating the Lady Bears 81-60 in Baltimore, Md. (2/2).
 
NEXT UP: The Lady Bears conclude their four-game road swing when they take on the Lady Aggies of North Carolina A&T on Jan. 25 at 4 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C., before traveling to Durham, N.C. to square off against the Eagles of North Carolina Central on Jan. 27 at 5:30 p.m.
  
PLAYING ON THE TUBE: The Lady Bears will make their 2013-14 television appearance as part of the MEAC ESPNU regular season TV schedule on Jan. 20, 2014 when they visit defending MEAC Tournament champion Hampton. The game, which will air live on ESPN3, will be the third-ever meeting between Hampton and Morgan State to be broadcasted on the television network. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the HU Convocation Center in Hampton, Va. This will be the fifth appearance for Morgan State as part of the league's television schedule with all games being played on the road. The Lady Bears' last appearance was against Hampton, a 74-60 loss on Jan. 30, 2012. The year before Morgan State defeated North Carolina A&T, 74-69 (2/28/11) to clinch the No. 2 seed for the league tournament. A year prior Morgan State was dealt a 37-74 loss at Hampton (1/11/10). Morgan State's first ESPNU game was on Feb. 23, 2009 and the Lady Bears defeated the Lady Pirates, 90-87 in overtime. Morgan State is 2-2 when playing on ESPNU.
 
STILL SEARCHING FOR ROAD WIN: The Lady Bears are still searching for its first road victory of the 2013-14 season, following back-to-back losses to Miami and Western Carolina at the Miami Holiday Tournament (Dec. 28-29). Morgan State, which is 0-8 this season away from Hill Field House, has not won a regular season road contest since a 69-67 overtime win at Delaware State (2/18/13).
