Morgan State pulls away early, cruises past Hornets

Box Score BALTIMORE, Md.Justin Black scored 20 points as the Bears extended to its longest current winning streak to four games, beating Delaware State, 66-47 at Hill Field House on Monday night.
 
Morgan State improved its record to 13-14 overall, 9-6 in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and has won seven of its last eight games.
 
Black scored 14 of his game-high 20 in the second half and shot 9 of 13 from the floor.
 
“I just want to play hard and go out there play hard and put the numbers up,” said Black, a 6-foot-4 junior guard. “We are on a nice little roll here.”
 
"I thought we did a good job tonight,” Morgan State coach Todd Bozeman said.  “We did a good job defending today and I was pleased.

“We shared the basketball and we only turned the ball over two times in the first half; that's big for us. If we don't turn the ball over, then we're playing good basketball. I thought Justin [Black] did a good job attacking with the ball, and I think Blake [Bozeman] did a good job with point guard play. It was a great team effort."
 
Delaware State (13-16, 8-7) pulled off a 52-50 win after watching the Bears squander a 16-point lead in their last matchup in Dover on Feb. 18th.  But Morgan State made sure that tonight there would be no letup against the Hornets.
 
The Hornets struggled for most of the game against Morgan State's defensive pressure as the Bears converted 17 turnovers into 22 points. They also outscored the Hornets in fastbreak points by a 16-0 margin.
 
Shaquille Duncan played a key role for the Bears interior and finished with 11 points, seven rebounds, with four blocks and three assists.
 
Delaware State held an 8-2 lead at the opening, but the Bears roared back with a 19-3 run.  Anthony Hubbard (10 points, 3 assists) scored 8 points during the run and when DeWayne Jackson scored a fastbreak layup with 7:43 left in the half, the Bears held a 25-13 advantage.
 
The Hornets went 6 minutes without a basket, before Kendall Gray scored on a dunk with 6:56 remaining in the half.
 
The Bears held a 35-21 advantage at the break.
 
Morgan State opened the second half on a 8-2 run and a Justin Black layup gave the Bears a 43-26 lead with 15:50 left to play.
 
Morgan State's largest lead of the night came off a steal by Blake Bozeman who fed Justin Black an open 3-pointer to push the lead to 24 (60-36) with 6:39 left.
 
Bozeman cleared his bench with just under 2 minutes remaining much to the delight of the home crowd.
 
The Bears shot 50 percent (27 of 53) from the field in a game in which everyone with a Morgan State jersey on got time on the floor tonight.
 
Marques Oliver was the only Hornet in double-figures with 13 points and nine rebounds. Delaware State's leading scorer Tahj Tate was held well below his average with 4 points on 2 of 10 shooting.
 
The Hornets were held to 17 of 56 shooting (30 percent) and shot 20 percent from 3-point territory (3 of 15).
