Morgan State Wins 2013 MEAC Cheerleading Championship - Morgan State University Athletics

NORFOLK, Va. -- Morgan State University won the 2013 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cheerleading Championship this past Sunday at Echols Hall on the campus of Norfolk State University.

The cheerleading championship is the opening event of the 2013 MEAC Basketball Tournament.

The Lady Bears captured first place honors for the third consecutive year while Howard University placed second and Hampton University finished third in the overall team performance. In addition to winning in overall performance category, MSU also won in the All-Girls Division.

“The win meant a lot to us,” said MSU coach Theresa Gibson. “There were unexpected errors, but the higher scores in the majority of the categories cushioned the blow of the deductions. “

“We have a lot of cleaning up to do before NCA nationals and our College STUNT tournament in April. We expect the ladies to practice with a different sense of urgency now that they've experienced how devastating our errors could have been.”

“If this very talented team works to their potential, they should place well at nationals.”

Morgan State sophomore base Amber Roberson finished as the competition's top All-Star, while Sabrina Robinson of Norfolk State was second and Camille Holly of Howard finished third.

“The highlight of the day was Amber Robinson winning top All-Star honors,” said Gibson. “Being selected as the No. 1 cheerleader in the competition is no easy feat! We are all very proud of her.”
