MSU fights off Bison for a close win, 53-51

Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Morgan State redshirt-junior Ian Chiles scored 16 points and hit a pair of clutch free throws to help the Bears hold off Howard for a 53-51 victory Monday night at Burr Gymnasium.
 
Chiles, a 7-foot-2 center, pulled down seven rebounds and had three blocked shots. His 16-point effort matched his career-high that he set at UNLV on November 20, 2011.
 
Morgan State (8-12, 4-5) won the rebound battle 37-25 and outscored the Bison 30-10 in the paint.
 
Junior Justin Black had 13 points and eight rebounds, while sophomore guard Blake Bozeman had 11 points for the Bears.
 
Howard (6-18, 3-7) trailed 26-25 early in the second half, but took a 39-32 lead with 13:14 left on Anton Dickerson's 3-pointer.
 
Chiles responded with a layup seconds later, and Morgan State ran off 11 consecutive points, including Black's go-ahead tip-in with 6:54 remaining.
 
Mike Phillips scored Howard's first 12 points as the Bison led 14-8 during the early going.  The Bison threatened to blow the game open when Anton Dickerson hit a pair of 3-pointers to help give push the lead to 20-10 with 7:26 left in the half. 
 
Phillips led Howard with 19 points, and Dickerson had 17.
 
Blake Bozeman helped stem the tide with two 3-pointers and a jump hook in the paint by Ian Chiles cut Howard's lead to 20-18.
 
Howard held a 25-24 lead at halftime.
 
The victory was Morgan State coach Todd Bozeman's 100th in the MEAC, the most by any Bears' coach.
 
The meeting was the 100th all-time between the schools, with Morgan State holding a 59-41 advantage.
