CORAL GABLES, Fla. (Dec. 28, 2013)-Keyona Hayes recorded a double-double with a team-high 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead five Miami players in double figures scoring, as the host Hurricanes defeated Morgan State, 80-42 in the opener of the Miami Holiday Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the BankUnited Center.
Miami advances to the title game on Sunday at 3 p.m. to take on the winner of the WesternCarolina-New Mexico game. Morgan State will face the loser of that game in the consolation game at 1 p.m.
Krystal Saunders connected on five three-pointers to score 15 points, while Maria Brown came off the bench to score 15 for the Canes, who improved to 7-4 with the win. Jassany Williams also tallied a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, while Adrienne Motley added 10 points.

Miami slowly built a 15-3 run, while holding the Lady Bears to just one field goal the first six minutes of the game. A steal and layup by
Ivy Harrington finally gave the Lady Bears just their second field goal, ending an eight minute drought.
The host Canes, who forced Morgan State into 31 turnovers, went on an 8-0 spurt to extend their cushion to 23-5 with 8:36 to play.
Morgan State began to show some life, as they used an 11-4 run to pull within 27-16, following two free throws from
Simone Sampson with 5:34 to play in first half.
However, Miami's Keyona Hayes, who was in the midst of scoring 12 straight points for theCanes, completed her run by scoring the next six points and Necole Sterling added a basketo up the hosts lead to 35-16.
Carrington would score the Lady Bears' final five points to bring the guests within 14 points at 23-37, but Miami would score the next three points to take a 40-23 advantage intothe locker room.
Miami, which finished with 37 points off of Morgan State turnovers, continued its defensive pressure in the second half. The Hurricanes began the second half on a 16-7 run to take a 56-30 advantage.
A jumper by
Danielle Robinson with 5:55 remaining in the game cut the deficit to 24 points at 66-42. Robinson's basket would be the last points of the game for Morgan State, as the Hurricanes closed out the game scoring the final 14 points for the 38-point victory.
Morgan State finished the game shooting 15-of-50 (30 percent) from the floor and failed to connect on a three-pointer in six attempts. The Lady Bears hit 12-of-17 (70 percent) from the free throw line.
The Hurricanes hit 40.8 percent (31-of-76) from the floor, including 5-of-30 from three-point range. Miami went 13-of-19 from the charity stripe for 68.4 percent. Miami out rebounded the Lady Bears 49-37 for the game and held a 28-9 advantage over Morgan State in bench points and 22-7 in second chance points.
