Bears Fall Short in Loss at Cal State Northridge, 86-80

LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Stephen Maxwell and Josh Greene scored 28 points apiece to carry Cal State Northridge to an 86-80 win over Morgan State on Friday night.
 
The Matadors (8-5) struggled from the foul line until the end of the game, hitting 12 of 14 free throws in the final 96 seconds. Prior to that they were 12 of 23.
 
While Maxwell was scoring a career-high and grabbing 12 rebounds, teammate Stephan Hicks was held to 10 points, more than eight below his average, but he grabbed 11 boards.
 
Justin Black led the Bears (3-8) with 24 points, 17 in the second half to keep the game close. Ian Chiles had 19 points, Blake Bozeman 15 with five 3's, and Anthony Hubbard 13 with 11 rebounds.
 
When Greene hit two free throws at the 1:36 mark, Northridge led 76-66. Black's jumper and 3-pointer, in a 7-0 run, made it 76-73 15 seconds later.

Morgan State led 12-11 at the 16:05 mark of the first half, but the Matadors ripped off ten straight points to take a 21-12 lead at the 13:04 mark. CSUN never surrendered the lead.
 
Cal State Northridge led at halftime, 39-34, and built its lead to as many as 13 points (61-48) with 10:30 remaining in the game.

The Bears will wrap up its west coast swing when they travel to face Oregon on Sunday (Dec. 29), followed by California-Irvine on Thursday (Jan. 2).

+ Justin Black eclipsed the 1,000 point mark for his career as a result of his 24-point outing against the Matadors ... the senior currently has 1,006 career points.
