Box Score STONY BROOK, N.Y. (Nov. 25, 2013)-Stony Brook's Sabre Proctor scored a game-high 17 points, 10 of which came from the free throw line (10-for-10) and Jessica Ogunnorin added 14 points to lead the Seawolves to a 79-55 non-conference win over Morgan State on Monday at Pritchard Gymnasium.
Morgan State (1-3) was led by
Danielle Forrest and
Ivy Harrington, who both scored a team-high 11 points. Harrington also added a team-high six rebounds and had a team-high two steals.
Tracey Carrington and
La'Quacious Adams finished with 10 points apiece.
The Lady Bears jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead following back-to-back three-pointers by Forrest just three minutes into the game, but a layup by Proctor capped off an 8-2 run by Stony Brook and evened the score at 8-8.
Morgan State answered right back and a three-point play by Adams, put the Lady Bears up by four at 14-10 with 10:54 to play.
Stony Brook (4-2) would take its first lead of the game (17-16) on a layup by Kori Bayne-Walker with 8:11 to go in the first half and would never relinquish the lead. The Seawolves would hold Morgan State scoreless for the next five minutes, while going on an 11-0 run. Two free throws from Teasha Harris gave the hosts their largest lead of the first half at 34-19 to cap off a 17-3 spurt.
Morgan State would end the half with back-to-back baskets by Harrington to cut the deficit to 11 points, as the Lady Bears trailed 36-25 at halftime.
Three minutes into the second half a three-pointer by Ogunnorin extended the Seawolves lead to 49-29. A 22-16 spurt by Stony Brook over the next 10 minutes, increased the Seawolves lead to 26 points at 73-47 with 5:14 remaining.
Stony Brook held a 43-35 rebounding advantage with Chikilra Goodman leading the way with a game-high eight rebounds.
The Lady Bears will return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 3 when they travel to West Point, N.Y. to take on Army in a non-conference game at Christl Arena.
