Women’s Basketball Drops Road Contest At NC State, 94-52

RALEIGH, N.C. (Nov. 18, 2013)-Kody Burke shot 10-of-12 from the field to score a game-high 23 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to lead North Carolina State to a 94-52 non-conference victory over Morgan State on Monday evening at Reynolds Coliseum. It was the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Markeisha Gatling added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Breezy Williams and Lakeesa Daniel each came off the bench to score 13 points and grab seven rebounds apiece to help the host Wolfpack to a 4-0 record at home.

Morgan State (0-2) was led by junior transfer Danielle Forrest, who finished with a team-high 17 points and a game-high three steals. Fellow junior, Tracey Carrington scored 15 points and freshman Ivy Harrington contributed seven points and a team-high four rebounds for the Lady Bears, who fell to 2-16 all-time against members of the Atlantic Coast Conference.

North Carolina State, who never trailed in the contest, jumped out to an 18-7 lead after a layup by Burke just six minutes into the game. Two free throws by Krystal Barrett capped off a 27-12 run by the hosts, giving the Wolfpack their largest advantage of the first half (26 points) at 45-19 with 1:24 to play.

The Wolfpack would take a 45-22 lead into the locker room at the intermission.

A layup by Daniel capped off a 17-8 spurt by NC State to give the hosts their largest lead of the game (45 points), 94-49 with 1:11 remaining in the game.

Forrest would connect on her third and final three-pointer of the game with five second left for the game's final score.

The Wolfpack shot 54.5 percent (36-of-66) from the field and finished with 23 assists. Morgan State shot 20-of-52 from the field for 38.5 percent and had just five assists in the game.

North Carolina State also outrebounded the Lady Bears 52-20 and held a 44-9 advantage over Morgan State in bench points.

The Lady Bears will return home on Wednesday, Nov. 20 to take on Wesley in a non-conference game at 5:30 p.m. at Hill Field House. It will be the first regular season meeting between the two teams.
