Amber Frame and the Lady Bears host Cherokee Williams and UMES this weekend at Lois T. Murray Field.
BALTIMORE, Md. (April 27, 2012)-The Morgan State softball team, in search of its first Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) series victory of the season, returns to action this weekend as it plays host to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) this weekend at Lois T Murray Field.
The series gets underway with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 pm, followed by a single game on Sunday at noon.
The Lady Bears (8-21, 2-10 MEAC), who last season finished in second-place in the MEAC North Division, were officially eliminated from the league's postseason championship on Wednesday by Howard, which swept its doubleheader at Norfolk State.
Morgan State has yet to win a conference series this season, having dropped its previous four, including two losses to Howard last weekend at Lois T. Murray Field. The Lady Bears' lone win against Howard was an 8-7 victory in 11 innings in Game 2, which ended a season-long seven-game losing skid.
UMES (0-28, 0-12 MEAC) enters this weekend's series having lost 43 of its last 44 games played, dating back to the final 16 games of the 2011 season. The Lady Hawks' last win was a 9-8 victory at Howard on May 7, 2011.
Last season the Lady Bears swept the visiting Lady Hawks, outscoring them 37-5 in three games. Morgan State has won the last six meetings against UMES. The Lady Hawks last victory over Morgan State was three years ago to the day, a 4-0 win on April 27, 2009. The win helped UMES take two of three games from the Lady Bears in Baltimore.
