BALTIMORE, Md. --
Aric Brooks didn't miss a shot while matching his career high of 18 points and leading Morgan State to a 68-56 win over Hampton on Monday night, snapping the Bears' two-game losing streak.
“I was trying to be more aggressive and make sure I made all of my free throws,” said Brooks. “I'm glad we got the win and I feel this is the best game we've played all year.”
Brooks came off the bench to shoot 4 for 4 from the field and 10 for 10 from the free-throw line. He also grabbed eight rebounds as Morgan State (4-11, 2-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) played its third game without coach
Todd Bozeman, who is on administrative leave.
“The guys gave a great effort and they played hard for forty minutes, “ said
Kevin McClain, who recorded his first win as acting head coach. “They played with the same passion that they've been playing with all season, we just played with more poise down the stretch tonight.
“We were able to get stops and convert on the other end by making free throws and making the right plays.”
The Pirates (6-12, 2-3) kept the game close thanks to Darrion Pellum, who scored a career-high 36 points.
After Hampton got within two, 52-50 with 7:39 to play on a Pellum jumper, the Bears used a 7-0 run to pull away.
Pellum was 12 of 28 from the field, 5 of 12 from long range and 7 of 9 from the line. However, the other seven Hampton players shot a collective 9 of 37.
