Morgan State Takes Out Bethune-Cookman, 55-45

Morgan State 55, Bethune-Cookman 45

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 7, 2011)-Brittany Noel scored a team-high 15 points and Brittany Dodson added 12 points to lead Morgan State to a 55-45 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) win over host Bethune-Cookman on Monday evening at the Ocean Center.

Moneshia Davis came off the bench and scored 10 points and Theresa Davis hauled in a game-high 11 boards, as Morgan State extended its winning streak to a season-high four games and avenged last season's lone home loss to the Lady Wildcats. The win was also the 90th career victory for Morgan State head coach Donald Beasley.

Morgan State (14-8, 8-2 MEAC) missed its first eight shots and faced an early 8-0 deficit, before scoring 10 consecutive points in the midst of a 12-3 run. Brittany Dodson capped off the run with a three-pointer from the left wing to give the Lady Bears their first lead of the game at 12-11.

Bethune-Cookman (11-11, 4-6 MEAC) held a 21-17 lead with 6:22 left in the opening half, but the Lady Bears closed out the half on a 12-4 spurt to take a 29-25 lead at the intermission.

Morgan State broke a 31 all game with a 15-4 run, in which Moneshia Davis scored eight straight points to extend the Lady Bears' lead to 46-35.

The Lady Wildcats would pull within four points (46-42) after Jasmine Daniels converted a free throw to complete a three-point play with 3:16 left in the contest. That would be as close as Bethune-Cookman would get, as Morgan State closed out the game on a 9-3 run for the victory.

Bethune-Cookman was led by Sarah Bolden, who scored a team-high 15 points and Jasmine Elum, who added 11 for the shorthanded Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Bears return to action on Saturday, Feb. 12, when they travel to Durham, N.C. to take on MEAC newcomer North Carolina Central in a non-conference game. It will be the Lady Bears last non-conference game of the season. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m.
