The Opening Tip
Morgan State, the 2010 MEAC champions, will face Bethune-Cookman on Monday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. at The Ocean Center in Daytona Beach, Fla. MSU 10-10 will attempt to get back in the column following a tough 63-59 loss at Florida A&M ... Bethune-Cookman will attempt to bounce back from a 90-79 overtime loss against Coppin State ... With the loss Bethune-Cookman dropped to 13-10 overall, but still remain atop the MEAC standings with a 7-2 in the MEAC.
Series History
Saturday's game will be the 52nd meeting between Morgan State and Bethune-Cookman in men's basketball … Bethune-Cookman holds a 30-21 all-time record against the Bears, although Morgan State has won their last five meetings ... The last time the Wildcats defeated Morgan State was during the 2006-07 season when they pulled out a 52-50 victory on Feb. 28, 2007.
The Last Time Out
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Forward Yannick Crowder scored 15 points and Chris Watson had 11 points to lead Florida A&M to a 63-59 victory. Ameer Ali, who entered the game averaging 6.3 points per game, was the Bears leading scorer tonight by finishing with 15 points on 6-for-11 shooting.
Bethune-Cookman's Last Game
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - CJ Reed went off for career-highs of 34 points and 10 rebounds, but Bethune-Cookman's 90-79 overtime loss to Coppin State Saturday in historic Moore Gym wasn't about franchise players. The visiting Eagles got eight overtime points from Tony Gallo, who didn't score in regulation, and 43 from their bench to knock the Wildcats (13-10, 7-2) out of the conference lead.
Looking Ahead at the Schedule
Following their matchup with the Wildcats, the Bears will have a week to prepare for South Carolina State on Monday, February 14 in Orangeburg (S.C.), the game will tip-off at 7:30 p.m. … During their last meeting on Jan. 15th, Morgan State's Aric Brooks scored a game-high 16 points to lead the Bears to a 71-55 victory over South Carolina State in an ESPN2 nationally televised contest. Kevin Thompson added 13 points and DeWayne Jackson had nine points with a career-high 10 rebounds for the Bears.
Home vs. Road
The Bears are scoring about the same no matter where they play this season, averaging 71 points at home and 63 points on the road per game. The big difference is the scoring of their opponents, which are averaging 67.8 points at Hill Field House and 64.9 points per game on their respective home courts.
Closing In On Two G's
Morgan State forward Kevin Thompson is on his way to a remarkable accomplishment as he is well on his way to recording 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in his career. The junior has recorded 1,032 points and 860 rebounds in his career.

♦ Against UMES, MSU scored 40 points inside the paint and scored 24 points off 19 turnovers.
♦ Junior point guard Larry Bastfield has scored in double-figures during the Bears' last three contests, including a season-high 15 points and shot 4-of-7 from beyond the arc against N.C. A&T on Jan. 31. ... He also dished out a game-high six assists.
♦ MSU coach Todd Bozeman is 5-1 against Bethune-Cookman coach Cliff Reed and the Wildcats, with his only loss coming during his first season at Morgan State (2006-07). Coach Reed is 5-10 against the Bears since he became the Wildcats' head coach in 2002, including an overtime win during the 2003 MEAC Tournament, and a double-overtime loss during the 2005-06 season.
♦ The Bears had four players score in double- figures during their win against N.C. A&T on Jan. 31 ... DeWayne Jackson (18), Larry Bastfield (15), Aric Brooks (10) and Ameer Ali (10).
♦ Kevin Thompson has led the Bears in rebounding 62 times in his career and has accounted for 860 rebounds ... he has also recorded nine double- doubles (points & rebounds) in 20 games played so far this season.
♦ Morgan State completed the 2009-10 season as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champs, it marked the Bears second consecutive MEAC Title and they also captured their third consecutive regular season title.
