Lady Bears Set For Tidewater Battle Against Norfolk State on Saturday

BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 24, 2011)-The Lady Bears (15-10, 9-4 MEAC) head to the road this Saturday, Feb. 26, when they visit the Spartans of Norfolk State in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) game at 4 p.m. at Echols Hall. The game will be the first of three final regular season games for the Lady Bears, all on the road. Morgan State has won three straight at Echols Hall. Morgan State trails the overall series to the Spartans, 13-10. The Lady Bears, however have won the last seven meetings, including a 64-60 victory earlier this season in Baltimore (1/29). The last time Norfolk State defeated the Lady Bears was a 75-71 home victory on Feb. 13, 2006. 

The Lady Bears, who continue to hold onto second-place in the league standings with three regular season games remaining, have been led by fellow seniors Brittany Dodson (11.1 ppg) and Theresa Davis, who is scoring 9.0 points and pulling down a team-high 7.2 rebounds. Fellow senior Erin Hawkins is chipping in with 7.2 points and leads the team in assists with 66, while Kyla Rollins, a junior transfer is recording 7.1 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Moneshia Davis leads the team in steals (47) and blocks (21) to go with her 5.9 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

Norfolk State (8-16, 1-12 MEAC), which is on an eight-game losing skid, is coming off a 62-49 road loss at South Carolina State on Monday. Sarah Daily and Rae Corbo both scored a team-high 11 points, while Rachel Gordon added 10 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds in the loss.

Whitney Long and Corbo lead the Spartans in scoring with 9.9 points per game, while Daily is averaging 9.4 points. Corbo leads Norfolk State in assists with 64 and steals with 38, while Long is adding 34 thefts. Long also leads the Spartans with 34 three-pointers made. Rachel Gordon is the team's leading rebounder with 6.2 per game and has a team-high 14 blocked shots.

Morgan State closed out its home schedule with an exciting 58-56 overtime victory over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Monday. Senior Erin Hawkins scored a team-high 15 points, while Moneshia Davis tallied 13 points and senior Brittany Noel added 11 points. The win ended a season-long three-game losing skid for Morgan State. Hawkins knocked down two free throws with 24 seconds remaining in overtime and MyQueisha Bratton had a steal in the final seconds to secure the victory.
