Morgan State Game Notes
BALTIMORE, Md. (Feb. 18, 2011)-The Lady Bears (14-8, 8-2 MEAC) finally return home after a grueling four-game road swing to host Delaware State in a MEAC conference game on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hill Field House.
Prior to the start of Saturday's 4 p.m. men's game against Virginia Military Institute (VMI), Morgan State will honor its 1980-81 women's basketball team. The squad finished the season with a school record 24-4 mark, while capturing the Eastern Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (EAIAW) Regional championship, before falling in the semifinals of the AIAW Tournament.
The Lady Bears, who went 2-2 during their road trip, enters the contest on a two-game losing skid, after winning a season-high four consecutive games. Morgan State recently dropped a 60-57 decision at South Carolina State this past Monday. Jamesia Smith led the Lady Bears with a team-high 15 points in a reserve role, while Brittany Dodson and Erin Hawkins added 11 and 10 points, respectively. Theresa Davis and Moneshia Davis each grabbed a team-high nine rebounds in the loss.
Morgan State has been led by Dodson, who is averaging 11.5 points per game, while Theresa Davis is scoring 9.0 points and pulling down a team-high 7.2 rebounds. Erin Hawkins is averaging 7.0 points and is tied with Dodson for the team lead in assists with 58. Kyla Rollins is chipping in with 6.7 points and 6.1 rebounds, while Moneshia Davis leads the team in steals (46) and blocks (20).
Delaware State (7-17, 3-9 MEAC) is on a two-game losing skid and has lost eight of its last 10 contests. The Hornets are coming off a 69-46 loss at Florida A&M on Monday night. Tasia Bristow scored a team-high 10 points, while Kianna Conner added nine. Brittany Washington pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds against Florida A&M.
Conner leads the Hornets in scoring with 9.8 points per game, while Bristow is chipping in with 8.4 points per outing. Washington leads the squad in rebounds with 8.0 boards per game to go with her 8.0 points per outing.
This will be the 65th meeting between the two teams with Delaware State holding a 36-28 all-time series lead. Morgan State, however has won the last three meetings, including a 51-44 victory over the Hornets earlier in the year in Dover, Del. (1/22).
