Knotts, Lady Bulldogs Upset Morgan State, 60-57

Morgan State 57, South Carolina State 60

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (Feb. 14, 2011)-South Carolina State's Tiara Knotts scored a game-high 23 points and Fannie Goodwin pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs, who knocked off visiting Morgan State, 60-57 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game on Monday evening at S-H-M Memorial Center.

Knotts, who shot 7-for-14, including 4-for-7 from three-point range, scored on a layup with 11 seconds remaining to secure the victory for the Lady Bulldogs, who ended a nine-game losing skid with the win. The victory also ended an eight-game losing streak to Morgan State, which was the Lady Bears longest active winning streak against a conference opponent.

Morgan State (14-10, 8-3 MEAC), which suffered its first two-game losing skid since December, was led by #Jamesia (Jamie) Smith#, who came off the bench and scored a team-high 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and added a team-high three steals. Brittany Dodson added 11 points and Erin Hawkins chipped in with 10 in a losing effort. Theresa Davis and Moneshia Davis both grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Lady Bears.

South Carolina State (7-15, 3-9 MEAC), which held a 35-34 halftime advantage, extended its lead to 47-38 following a trey by Knotts with 11:37 left in the contest. However, Morgan State would go on a 17-8 run over the next nine minutes to get back in the game.

Smith nailed a three-pointer with 4:10 to play to make it a 53-50 game and Moneshia Davis later connected on a free throw to complete a three-point play and even the score at 55-55 with 2:16 to play. But that would be as close as Morgan State would get, as the host Lady Bulldogs never surrendered the lead.

Morgan State returns to MEAC action on Saturday, Feb. 19, when it plays host to Delaware State. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. at Hill Field House.
