PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Morgan State entered tonight's game with more size than Saint Joseph's, but it was the Hawks' quickness that helped hand the Bears a loss on Wednesday night at Hagan Arena.

Saint Joseph's (10-3) improved to 7-0 at home and head coach Phil Martelli became the school's all-time coaching leader with 310 wins.

The Hawks dominated MSU 81-50 behind Carl Jones' game-high 16 points and Halil Kanacevic's 12 assists to go along with eight rebounds, seven blocked shots.

MSU (2-8) outrebounded the Hawks by a 48-44 margin, including 26 offensive rebounds, but it was poor shooting that hurt the Bears' efforts.

MSU connected on just 18 of 70 shots (25.7 percent) and shot 17 percent from 3-point territory, while SJU combined to shoot 33 of 64  (51.6 percent) from the field.

The teams traded leads during the opening four minutes, before Saint Joseph's took control. With the game tied at 8 apiece, Langston Quarles drilled a 3-pointer and C.J. Aiken scored on a lob dunk to help ignite a 12-2 run. The Bears went without a basket until redshirt-sophomore center Ian Chiles scored a layup with 11:58 remaining.

MSU kept within striking distance as a result of sloppy play, but two 3-pointers by the Hawks helped ignite a 17-6 spurt. Halil Kanacevic tossed a lob to Ronald Roberts for an uncontested slam to increase the Hawks' lead to 39-22 at the 2:18 mark.

Carl Jones nailed a long range 3-pointer at the buzzer to help the Hawks go into the locker room with a commanding  44-26 halftime lead.

Jones scored 13 and Kanacevic had 10 assists and 4 blocks in the first 20 minutes.

MSU finished the half by shooting 28.9 percent (11-38) from the field, while SJU shot 57.6 percent (19-33) from the field and 50 percent from long range.

The Hawks started the second half by scoring the first six points to help given them a 46-26 lead with 17:43 remaining. The Hawks led by as many as 31 points in the second stanza.

It was a relatively quiet night for MSU standouts Kevin Thompson and DeWayne Jackson. Thompson posted 11 rebounds with eight points, while Jackson scored eight points on 3 for 13 shooting.  Chiles and freshman guard Blake Bozeman led the Bears with 10 points apiece.
