SOMETHING'S NOT RIGHT: For the first 19-plus minutes of the first half of Morgan State's loss at Arkansas on Monday, the two teams played with a men's basketball. That might explain why both teams struggled shooting early on. After several player complaints about the feel of the ball, referees finally checked the ball and noticed it was not a women's sized basketball.
NINE-DAY WORLD TOUR COMES TO AN END: The Lady Bears who have been on the road since the morning of last Tuesday, Dec. 13, will finally return home to Baltimore following their contest against Stony Brook.
ALL TRAVEL LEADS TO DALLAS-FT. WORTH: The Morgan State women's basketball team has become familiar with the Dallas-Ft. Worth Airport during this current road trip. After taking on Northwestern (12/14) the Lady Bears flew from Chicago to Dallas to Springfield, Mo. for their contest against Missouri State (12/18). From there they took vans to Arkansas for their contest against the Razorbacks (12/19), before flying out of Arkansas Regional Airport only to return to Dallas to then fly to New York's LaGuardia Airport for Wednesday's contest against Stony Brook.
COARDES RECORDS CAREER-HIGH: Junior Briana Coardes came off the bench and scored a career-high eight points on 3-for-3 shooting, including 2-for-2 from three-point range in 18 minutes of play against Missouri State. Coardes also added two rebounds, an assist and a steal.
BEASLEY CLOSING IN ON 100: Seventh-year Morgan State head coach Donald Beasley is five wins shy of reaching the 100-wins plateau, after defeating Bucknell, 54-52 on Nov. 22, 2011. The victory was his 86th win, surpassing Anderson Powell (85-179 from 1986-94). Beasley, who has a career mark of 95-95, recorded his 80th career win, following a 53-48 victory over Northwestern State (11/27). LaRue Fields (122-60 from 1979-85) is the school's all-time leader.
