Arkansas Hands Morgan State Fourth Straight Loss, 81-50

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (Dec. 19, 2011)-Lyndsay Harris came off the bench and scored a game-high 14 points and Ashley Daniels added 12 points to lead host Arkansas to an 81-50 non-conference victory over Morgan State on Monday evening at Bud Walton Arena.

Sarah Watkins chipped in with 11 points and Erin Gatling came off the bench and also added 11 -points, while Quistelle Williams pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and had a game-high three blocks for the Razorbacks (9-1), who improved to 6-0 at home this season.

Morgan State (2-6) was led by Tracey Carrington, who came off the bench and scored a team-high 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Whitney Southerland and Omara Parker each added eight points for the Lady Bears, who have now lost a season-long four consecutive games.

Both teams struggled early on offensively until the host Razorbacks turned a 6-4 lead into a 17-4 cushion, following an 11-0 run over the course of seven minutes. A three-pointer by Moneshia Davis cut the Arkansas lead to 21-14 with 5:30 to play in the first half, but that would be as close as Morgan would get the rest of the game.

 

The Razorbacks, who held a 30-19 advantage at the break, extended their lead to 30 with a 33-14 run to take a 63-33 advantage with 9:03 to play. The host later used a 10-6 run capped off by a three-pointer by Gatling to take their largest lead of the game at 35 points (81-46) with 2:39 remaining in the contest.

 

The Lady Bears forced 20 Arkansas turnovers, while committing 11 themselves. The Razorbacks out rebounded Morgan State, 64-39 for the game.

 

The Lady Bears will complete their nine-day four-game world tour on Wednesday, Dec. 21, when they visit Stony Brook in a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
